Blog 4 - Analysis of Opening Sequences

Jennifer's body
The first 15 minutes of watching this film we learn that the protagonist (Needy) turns insane but before that she was best friends with the antagonist (Jennifer). The settings we see are dark and prisons. The langauge used is informal because its full of american teenagers. They build up suspense by changes in music.

Sorority Row
The first 15 minutes we watched it starts off all dark and slowly moves towards the house, just to find out it a party full of sorority and frat people. The settings keep changing from dark to bright. Again in this film the langauge is informal. The protagonist in the film is Cassidy the sensible one of the sorority girls and the antagonist is Chelsea the selfish one of the sorority group.

Blog 3 - Institutional Contexts

Jennifers Body
The age rating for this film is 15 years old+, the company that made the film was Fox and there estimated opening budget was $16,000,000. The good thing about this film is that it made alot of money within the first weekend of coming out. A reason this probablly made more money then Sorority row did is because this film was a 15+ instead of 18+ meaning more people were able to see it.
Opening Weekend:
$6,868,397 (USA) 20 September2009(2,702 Screens)
£736,535 (UK) (314 Screens)

Sorority Row
Again in Soroity Row the age rating for this film is 18+, the company which made the film was Karz Entertainment and there estimated opening budget was $16,000,000 same as Jeniffers Body. The good thing about the film considering it had alot less viewers was how much it made on its opening weekend.
Opening Weekend:
$5,059,802 (USA)(2,665 Screens)
£782,693 (UK)(345 Screens)

Blog 2 - Target Audience

Jennifers Body
Looking at the ratings (below) you and I can see that the majorirty of the people who watched this film were males between the ages of 18-29. The strange thing about these ratings are that the female side of the rating overall rated higher then the males did.
Is this because the males were put off by her killer ways???
Sorority Row
Looking at the ratings (below) you and I can see that overall the majority of people who watched this film were male again between the ages of 18-29. The ratings on this film though is kinda equal when its between the male and females. One thing different between the two films is that more people went to see Jeniffers Body compared to Soroity Row.

Overall I think my film should be aimed at people between the ages of 18-29year olds and maybe aimed more at males.
